THE SEVEN YEAR LIFE CYCLES
Today I want to talk a little about the phenomenon of Saturn's influence in our life cycles....
The seven year cycles of life have long been understood by native communities as specific growth periods of life, and are still loosely followed in our culture too. These milestones begin at birth and follow the transitions which we each go through - puberty at age fourteen, the 'key to the door' and adulthood at age twenty one, and so on, as we mature.
For instance, during the first seven years of life an individual experiences total dependence on the mother, growing towards greater independence and exploration of the immediate, and then broader environment. It is the initial development phase of the self. By the age of seven we have acclimatised to our environment and ready for the next stage, further growth of the body towards puberty and further worldly exploration.
These seven year growth cycles also fall neatly within our natal astrology chart, the chart unique to each of us at the time of our birth. Saturn, the ruler of work, discipline, rules and karma, takes 28 years to complete its orbit around the sun. So the time around the 28th year, and our 56th, are called the Saturn return, the time when Saturn in the sky returns to the same place it was at our birth. This can be a time of great life changes, and perhaps upheaval, as Saturn, the great teacher, guides us on our life's journey.
Each seven year cycle represents an aspect to the natal Saturn - the square, opposition, square again, and conjunction. Each one of these seven year aspects can be a time when health issues can arise if one isn't 'on path'. Others can have a smooth transition through these phases, and experience them as times of life changing events, such as the birth of a child, marriage, or a change of career.
Have a look at your current seven year cycle and see if this resonates with what is going on for you...
